Environment and Community

Environmentally Conscious

We are quite conscious of the negative impact we make on our environment on a daily basis. In our own little way, ChapterOne Leather tries as much as Folded cardboard boxes of various shapes and colours.possible to reduce the negative impact whether it is done knowingly or unknowingly.

Recycling: We avoid using acrylic or any type of plastic templates. Instead, we repurpose the cardboard boxes of everyday household items such as cereal boxes and canned food and beverage boxes. Printed cardboard does have some level of toxic substances no matter how minimal they may be. Re-purposing such household items reduces the volume of such items going to the landfills. Well, it does reduce our production speed, yet it is a time investment we are willing to make if it means that we are preserving the environment.
Sustainable Material: The term ’sustainable’ has different interpretations depending on the industry. Whatever the interpretation is, they all call to action to protect our environment. Here's what ’sustainable’ means to ChapterOne Leather.
Leather Hides: We are, in terms of a responsible business, making a bold move towards making products from leather that comes only from the farmed meat industry and licensed game hunting. As such, our hides are only of cow, sheep, goat, bison, calf, pig, deer, elk, alligator, and ostrich. We believe that even though it is possible to emboss patterns of python and other snake prints, tiger and leopard printed hair-on hides, and elephant skin textures on these leathers, it is still creating a desire to own leather products from the hides of these exotic animals. That still causes the sourcing of the real exotic hides to meet the demand. We are positioning ourselves at a great disadvantage by doing so because of the global appeal for exotic leather. Yet, we are determined to remain within our principles.
Dyes: ChapterOne Leather, experiments with the all-natural colouring of leather. Vegetables, roots, fruits, tea, coffee, flowers, and rusted used metals, are sustainable ingredients and they offer some rich and vibrant colours. Furthermore, such dyes avoid the chemical content, and that is good for you, the environment and the durability of the leather. We still do use oil-based dyes since some colours are hard to extract from all-natural ingredients, such as jet black. However, our experimentation will continue to envision a day when all our colours are extracted from chemical-free natural elements.

Community Service

Today, the world is riddled with social issues. Some of the most affected members of our community are young persons and those who find themselves below the poverty line. ChapterOne Leather;

- Donates a portion of our annual profits or leather products for charitable activities to a capacity building Social Purpose Organization that is either young persons focused or has a young persons related program.

- When the opportunity presents itself, we volunteer at a not-for-profit that is focused on programs and services related to providing economic stability.
